Advancing Accessibility and Inclusive Employment in Hospitality
At Sudima Hotels, we believe hospitality is about people — including the teams who bring our hotels to life. Through our Open Doors Internship Programme, we are advancing accessibility in hospitality and supporting disability employment in New Zealand. This paid six-week supported internship creates meaningful employment pathways for people with disabilities within the hospitality industry.
When Zoe joined Sudima Hotels through the programme, she wasn’t looking for sympathy — she was looking for opportunity. She had the skills and potential; she simply needed an employer willing to open the door.
In New Zealand, the unemployment rate for disabled people remains significantly higher than for non-disabled people. This disability employment gap represents talent our workforce cannot afford to overlook. Inclusive employment requires action. The Open Doors Internship provides hands-on hospitality experience, structured mentoring and transferable skills that support long-term workforce participation.
The programme has been featured by OneinSix.nz for its contribution to advancing inclusive employment for disabled New Zealanders. We are committed to building accessible workplaces and teams that reflect the communities we serve — strengthening both Sudima Hotels and the wider New Zealand hospitality industry.
