Hell's Gate is an award-winning geothermal reserve. Named by famous playwright George Bernard Shaw, who, upon taking in its 2.5kms of boiling mud and hot water pools, proclaimed that it must indeed be the gateway to Hell.
Located within Hell's Gate is the Kakahi Falls - the largest hot waterfall in the Southern Hemisphere - an Inferno - with 5 geothermally active pools with temperatures reaching 110ºC.
Visit the Mud Spa where you can immerse yourself in one of the mud baths, each containing 60kgs of geothermal muds, which you are encouraged to smear over your body! Or enjoy the many benefits of traditional Maori massage, facials and body treatments.
Hell's Gate is just 20 minutes drive from Rotorua's city centre, and Sudima Hotel Rotorua, on the road to Whakatane. A courtesy shuttle to/from Rotorua is available.
