Every day there is a release of newly hatched butterflies at 10.00am and 3 pm, so make sure you don’t miss it! The tropical butterfly house also includes turtles, quails, finches, water dragons, tamarin monkeys and variety of fish.

The Dinosaur Kingdom at Butterfly Creek

Butterfly Creek also has Dinosaur Kingdom – New Zealand's only Dinosaur Park. It’s a prehistoric themed attraction with more than 30 life size dinosaurs towering up to 24m in height and features an amazing display of fossils and skeletons. The Dinosaur Kingdom is most definitely a highlight for visitors spending a day at Auckland’s Butterfly Creek…you can walk amongst these lifelike creatures, hear them roar and learn all about their ancient origins. But if you’d prefer to keep your distance, you can take a miniature train ride around the attraction on the Red Admiral Express.

Giant Crocodiles at Butterfly Creek

The world’s most aggressive predators; a pair of Australian Saltwater Crocodiles (weighing nearly 600kg each) are on show in an indoor tropical Northern Territory themed enclosure; with public feedings every day at 1.00pm. The deadly reptilian duo are previously captured “problem crocodiles” that became a menace to humans and farm livestock. These fearsome creatures are exclusive to Auckland’s’ Butterfly Creek and are not on view anywhere else in New Zealand.

Buttermilk Farm at Butterfly Creek

For those more faint of heart, there is also Buttermilk Farm, where visitors young and old can get up close with a range of cuddly farmyard animals including rabbits, guinea pigs, goats, alpacas, sheep, pigs, and chickens. Supervised children can even hold or pet the animals every hour from 10.30am – 3.30pm. Do you like feeding animals? You can do this as well three times daily. For the feeding schedule, just contact the venue. There is something here for the whole family, and, of course, big kids at heart.
