More than just a butterfly enclosure, Butterfly Creek has a unique collection of animals, insects and creatures great and small from across the world. You can get upclose with the world’s most aggressive predators – a pair of Giant Salt Water Australian crocodiles during their daily feeding. There’s a breeding program for New Zealands own giant Weta’s – the worlds heaviest insect. Or share Australasia’s premier Tropical Butterfly House with over 600 burtterflies and a daily hatching of new butterflies from across the world. The Butterfly House at Butterfly Creek
Over 600 free flying exotic butterflies from butterfly farms all around the world make their home in the high humidty Butterfly House. Every day there is a release of newly hatched butterflies at 10.00am and 3 pm, so make sure you don’t miss it! The tropical butterfly house also includes turtles, quails, finches, water dragons, tamarin monkeys and variety of fish.
The Dinosaur Kingdom at Butterfly Creek
Butterfly Creek also has Dinosaur Kingdom – New Zealand's only Dinosaur Park. It’s a prehistoric themed attraction with more than 30 life size dinosaurs towering up to 24m in height and features an amazing display of fossils and skeletons. The Dinosaur Kingdom is most definitely a highlight for visitors spending a day at Auckland’s Butterfly Creek…you can walk amongst these lifelike creatures, hear them roar and learn all about their ancient origins. But if you’d prefer to keep your distance, you can take a miniature train ride around the attraction on the Red Admiral Express.
Giant Crocodiles at Butterfly Creek
The world’s most aggressive predators; a pair of Australian Saltwater Crocodiles (weighing nearly 600kg each) are on show in an indoor tropical Northern Territory themed enclosure; with public feedings every day at 1.00pm. The deadly reptilian duo are previously captured “problem crocodiles” that became a menace to humans and farm livestock. These fearsome creatures are exclusive to Auckland’s’ Butterfly Creek and are not on view anywhere else in New Zealand.
Buttermilk Farm at Butterfly Creek
For those more faint of heart, there is also Buttermilk Farm, where visitors young and old can get up close with a range of cuddly farmyard animals including rabbits, guinea pigs, goats, alpacas, sheep, pigs, and chickens. Supervised children can even hold or pet the animals every hour from 10.30am – 3.30pm. Do you like feeding animals? You can do this as well three times daily. Butterfly Creek is just 1 minute from the Airport at 10 Tom Pearce Drive, with complementary shuttle to and from the airport for those visiting the attraction. Visit the iSite information centre and ask them to call you a shuttle.
